Psychotherapy for an enchanted world…a world where we have a lived experience that everything is conscious and intimately connected.
People generally come into psychotherapy wanting to get “fixed”. This isn’t surprising because our whole education is process of learning to objectify ourselves. From birth onward we undergo a process of conpartmentalization…..we split into the good and bad of us, the smart and the dumb, the beautiful and the ugly. Our earliest strategies about how to feel safe and loved are grounded in an attempt to control for these and similar variables. No wonder we never feel real or whole.
All alienation is born of unhealed pain.if we are willing to believe that healing is possible, and if we are willing to accept the challenges to our identity that healing will precipitate. Are you willing to reimagine yourself as someone who is not defined by your past? This what is needed to remake the world. Our personal happiness, and the health of humanity and the planet depend on our ability to heal past pain, and to form close, loving relationships not only with other people but with the things of our world, as well.
I see psychotherapy as a practice to heal our sense of separation. We all know that pain hurts. But we are confused about why it hurts, as well as how to fix it. The missing piece is that pain separates us…from ourselves, other people (even those we love), and a sense of belonging in our world.
